# Newzik vs MobileSheets: which sheet music app should you use in 2026?

**In short.** Pick MobileSheets if you read from an Android tablet or a Windows device, want a one-time $15.99 price per platform, or need one tablet to turn pages for the whole band. Pick Newzik if your ensemble shares parts and markings from iPads or you want PDFs to play back and transpose, which needs Premium. Newzik scores 8.0 overall and MobileSheets 7.9.

Choose MobileSheets if: Players on Android tablets or Windows 2-in-1s, and anyone with a very large library who wants one-time pricing.

Disclosure: Newzik is a commercial partner of this site. Scores are calculated from published criteria.

## Key takeaways

- MobileSheets runs natively on Android, Windows, iPad and iPhone for a one-time $15.99 per platform; Newzik's native app is iPad and iPhone only, with Newzik Web in a browser everywhere else.
- MobileSheets leads on reading and page turning (9 vs 7.5 in our scoring): Connect Tablets lets one leader device turn pages on any number of followers over Wi-Fi, across Android, Windows and Apple, while Newzik has had no linked page turns since April 2021.
- Newzik leads on sharing and ensembles (9.5 vs 5.5): Projects sync parts and annotation layers through an account in real time, while MobileSheets shares files and has no online shared library or roles.
- Newzik's LiveScore converts PDFs into notation you can play back, transpose and export (Premium beyond 10 free pages); MobileSheets has no MusicXML, playback or OMR but transposes ChordPro and ABC charts.
- MobileSheets needs no account and keeps your library on the device; Newzik restricts library access if Premium lapses with more than 3 pieces stored.

Newzik and MobileSheets come at sheet music from opposite directions. MobileSheets is a pay-once reader that runs natively on Android, Windows, iPad and iPhone and keeps your files on the device. Newzik is an account-based iPad and iPhone app, with a browser version, designed around ensembles that share parts and markings.

The overall scores are close: 8.0 for Newzik and 7.9 for MobileSheets in our [sheet music app ranking](/best-sheet-music-apps/). Newzik's lead comes entirely from sharing and smart notation, which our [published methodology](/how-we-rank/) weights at 25% combined. MobileSheets scores higher on reading, library, platforms and value, and the two tie on annotation.

## Newzik or MobileSheets: which should you pick?

Pick MobileSheets if you read from an Android tablet or a Windows device, want to pay once, or lead a band whose tablets should turn pages together. Pick Newzik if you play in an iPad-based ensemble that shares parts and markings, or want to hear and transpose your PDFs.

MobileSheets is the solo and gigging reader that goes almost everywhere: every page-turn method, a library built for tens of thousands of songs, ChordPro charts and deep MIDI control. Newzik is the group tool: real-time shared Projects with layered markings, organization accounts and LiveScore conversion, with the headline features behind Premium.

## How do platforms and price compare?

MobileSheets runs natively on more devices and costs less; Newzik reaches any device through a browser but performs natively only on iPad and iPhone. MobileSheets leads 7.5 to 7 on platforms and 8.5 to 5 on value.

MobileSheets has native apps for Android 7.0 or later, Windows 10 and 11 (including a native ARM64 build), iPad and iPhone, plus an e-ink edition for BOOX tablets sold through Zubersoft's own store. On a Mac it runs only as the iPad app on Apple Silicon, which the App Store labels "Not verified for macOS". As of October 2026, each platform is a separate one-time $15.99 purchase with no subscription. Free trials hold 8 songs on Android and iOS, and the Microsoft Store offers a 14-day trial.

Newzik's native app runs on iPad and iPhone only. Its help center answers the Android question with "Unfortunately not", and the iPad app isn't offered on Macs. Elsewhere you sign in to Newzik Web, which Newzik positions for library work, sharing and LiveScore; it says reading and performing work best on iPad. Newzik is free for 3 pieces and 10 LiveScore pages; Essentials is a $24.99 one-time purchase for up to 1,000 pieces; Premium costs $9.99/month, $44.99/year or $179 lifetime.

Sync is where MobileSheets asks more of you. With no account, library sync is a manual merge through a cloud folder (Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Nextcloud, or iCloud on Apple devices) or a direct Wi-Fi or Bluetooth link, and some reviewers report duplicates or failed syncs. Newzik syncs automatically through its account.

Newzik's help center says that if Premium expires and your library holds more than 3 pieces, the library stays on Newzik's servers but can't be opened until you resubscribe or buy Essentials. MobileSheets stores your library locally and needs no account to perform.

## Which is better for reading and page turning?

MobileSheets, 9 to 7.5. It offers every page-turn method, including linked tablets, and its face gestures come with the base app.

MobileSheets accepts Bluetooth and USB pedals with up to six mapped switches, face gestures (an open mouth or a smile) on every platform except the native Windows ARM64 build, automatic scrolling and a dedicated Half Page mode. Link points jump between repeats, and smart buttons trigger audio, MIDI or links. With Connect Tablets, a leader device loads songs and setlists and turns pages on followers: any number over Wi-Fi or up to seven over Bluetooth, across Android, Windows and Apple. Followers need the same songs in their own library, and a book mode pairs two tablets as one two-page spread.

Newzik covers keyboard-mode, AirTurn and MIDI pedals, half-page turns in portrait, a locked performance mode and offline reading of downloaded scores. Face-gesture turns need Premium and a Face ID camera. It has had no linked page turns since Band Mode was removed in version 6.0 in April 2021.

Neither is flawless: some 2025 and 2026 MobileSheets reviews report crashes or freezes, and some reviewers find Newzik's toolbars crowd the score. Our [page turner pedal guide](/guides/best-page-turner-pedals/) covers the hardware.

## Which has better annotation tools?

They tie at 9 in our scoring. MobileSheets has the bigger toolbox for your own markings; Newzik's layers are built for sharing markings with others.

MobileSheets offers pen, highlighter, text, shapes, arrows, crescendo and piano-staff tools, hundreds of stamps plus your own, layers, stylus pressure and the option to embed annotations into the PDF. Zubersoft's roadmap puts an annotation editor update first, in version 3.10.0.

Newzik has pens, highlighters, straight lines, symbols, text, inserted pictures and, since February 2026, a Shapes tool for slurs, hairpins and tuplets. Its distinctive feature is the Project layer: private, public (read-only for others) or shared (editable by everyone), so a section leader's bowings and your own fingerings stay separate. Our [annotation guide](/guides/annotate-sheet-music/) compares approaches.

## How do their libraries compare?

MobileSheets scores higher (9.5 vs 8.5) and is built for very large libraries: Zubersoft cites libraries of 50,000 songs without slowdown. Newzik's library tools are lighter, but the library lives in the cloud and publishers can deliver into it.

MobileSheets opens PDFs, images, text, ChordPro and ABC files, with more than 20 metadata fields, multiple libraries, filters, collections, setlists and CSV indexes that split a fake book into individual songs. The free Companion app for Windows, macOS and Linux manages a tablet's library over Wi-Fi. There is no store; you bring your own files.

Newzik stores 3 pieces free, 1,000 on Essentials and an unlimited number on Premium. It adds batch upload on Newzik Web, an IMSLP and CPDL browser, setlists with folders and archiving, and delivery of rentals and purchases from 24 partner publishers, including Boosey & Hawkes and Universal Edition.

## Which is better for sharing and ensembles?

Newzik, 9.5 to 5.5. MobileSheets links tablets in the same room; Newzik keeps a whole ensemble's parts and markings in sync through an account, wherever the players are.

A Newzik Project lets a librarian, conductor or teacher add or replace parts and push markings to every member in real time, with the layer permissions above. Essentials includes one Project and Premium makes them unlimited. Newzik Ensemble, priced on request, adds owner, admin and member roles, user groups and per-project restrictions, and members get Premium-level access. Schools with 25 or more users can buy Newzik Education at €10 per license per year.

MobileSheets' group tools are local and file-based. Connect Tablets drives other players' pages and, since March 2026, syncs annotations between connected tablets. Songs and setlists travel as .msf packages or .mss setlists, and PDFs can be exported with annotations for people who don't use the app. There are no accounts, roles or online shared library, and each musician needs their own copy.

## Which handles smart notation better?

Newzik, 9 to 5.5. Newzik turns PDFs into playable notation; MobileSheets transposes chord charts but can't play or transpose a PDF.

LiveScore converts a PDF or scan into a score with MIDI playback, a play-along cursor and measure looping. Premium adds unlimited conversions, PDF transposition up to an octave and MusicXML or MIDI export. MusicXML files you already have open directly in the iPad and iPhone app. The limits are documented: Newzik says several voices on one staff are "still fragile" and handwriting isn't recommended, and US App Store reviews from June to September 2026 report skipped notes and wrong note values. Try the 10 free pages on your own scores first.

MobileSheets has no MusicXML, OMR or notation playback. It transposes ChordPro, text and ABC files with capo and chord diagrams, plays audio tracks with A-B looping and pitch shift, and links to KORG and Yamaha Genos arrangers over MIDI. It has no built-in tuner or recorder; Newzik has both. See our guide to [converting PDF to MusicXML](/guides/pdf-to-musicxml/).

## Can you use both?

Yes, and it can be the best answer when your own device isn't an iPad. Use MobileSheets to perform from your Android tablet or Windows 2-in-1, and Newzik where your ensemble keeps its parts.

Newzik Web runs in a browser on Android tablets and Windows PCs, so you can open your orchestra's or choir's Projects and see the shared markings there, while MobileSheets holds your personal library and gig setlists. On an iPad the split is simpler: Newzik for the ensemble, MobileSheets for solo and band work. The two libraries don't sync with each other, so move scores between them as PDFs.

## Which should you choose?

Start from your device and your group, then check the criterion that matters most to you:

- Android tablet or Windows 2-in-1 as your main reader: MobileSheets. See our [Android](/best/sheet-music-apps-for-android/) and [Windows](/best/sheet-music-apps-for-windows/) rankings.
- Cover, wedding or worship band with mixed devices: MobileSheets, for Connect Tablets and ChordPro charts. The [worship team ranking](/best/sheet-music-apps-for-worship-teams/) has more options.
- Keyboard player with a KORG or Yamaha arranger: MobileSheets, for its MIDI integration.
- Large library of fake books and songbooks: MobileSheets.
- Orchestra, choir or opera section on iPads: Newzik, ideally with an organization account. See the [best apps for orchestras](/best/sheet-music-apps-for-orchestras/).
- Teacher distributing material to a class on iPads: Newzik, since students receive updates and can submit recordings in a Project.
- You want to hear or transpose PDFs: Newzik Premium. MobileSheets can't.
- You never want a subscription: MobileSheets, or Newzik Essentials if one shared Project and the core reader are enough.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Newzik available on Android like MobileSheets?

No. Newzik has no Android app and no Google Play listing; on an Android tablet you use Newzik Web in a browser, which Newzik positions for library work rather than performing. MobileSheets runs natively on Android 7.0 or later and costs $15.99 once on Google Play, and Zubersoft also sells an edition for BOOX e-ink tablets.

### Which is cheaper, Newzik or MobileSheets?

MobileSheets, for most players. It is a one-time $15.99 purchase per platform with no subscription. Newzik is free for 3 pieces, Essentials costs $24.99 once, and Premium, which includes LiveScore and PDF transposition, costs $9.99/month, $44.99/year or $179 lifetime on the US App Store as of October 2026.

### Can MobileSheets share annotations like Newzik?

Partly. Since version 3.9.35 (March 2026), annotations sync between tablets linked with Connect Tablets, and you can send songs as .msf packages or export annotated PDFs. MobileSheets has no online shared library, accounts or layer permissions, which is what Newzik's Projects provide.

### Does MobileSheets open MusicXML or convert PDFs to notation?

No. MobileSheets reads PDFs, images, text, ChordPro and ABC files, and its camera import produces images, not notation. Newzik opens MusicXML in its iPad and iPhone app and converts PDFs with LiveScore, with 10 free pages and Premium after that.

### Which is better for a band with mixed devices?

For performing together, MobileSheets: it runs natively on Android, Windows and Apple devices, and a leader can turn everyone's pages with Connect Tablets, though each player buys their own copy. For distributing parts and markings, Newzik: members without an iPad can open Projects on Newzik Web, but Newzik says reading and performing work best on iPad.
